Interview With Gelernter

You may recall that I mentioned the other day that David Gelernter’s WSJ op-ed was the occasiona of substantial reaction. One of the reactions came in the form of this interview at Slate with Dr. Gelernter which I recommend you read in full.

I thought it reflected a substantial failure of a meeting of minds. Let me cite an example. Am I mistaken or did the interviewer believe that any unfair or specious criticism of a non-white president was ipso facto racism while Gelernter did not?

I have active memories of thirteen presidents. I do not recall any of those presidents who did not receive unfair or even untrue criticism, some more than others. That’s politics not prejudice. If politics as usual is construed as racial bigotry what should we conclude from that?

Racism is the new heresy, Torquemada smiles from where he is.

Interesting interview, a good reminder that politics is ultimately self-serving.

Mr. Schuler, by even bringing up the possibility that any criticism might not be racist shows your inherent bigotry / sarc.

Isn’t it wonderful how any criticism of a leftist seems to immediately turn into shouts of ‘bigot!’ It’s not like any of their ideas aren’t perfect.

To answer your question, NO. The only unfair criticism about Obama they discussed was about birtherism, which was so bizarre it is hard to come up with an explanation other than racism other than it was used to try to appeal to racists. Interesting that you would come away with that from the article and totally ignore this.

“I don’t think you understand that men—hard-line, wealthy, privileged WASPs—with Jewish sons-in-law are not racists. You take these things for granted. I’m a little older and I don’t.”

Say, Steve , you can correct if i Misremember, but wasn’t B. Obama as editor of the Harvard Law Review, bioed as a Kenyan? This , if i remember right, may have been not because he was actually born there, but because it lubricated his insertion into the bowels of Harvard. Later waved away as a typo. No problem, we all err, insertion complete.

… because it lubricated his insertion into the bowels of Harvard. […]

So, the next you are going to tell me is that Sen. Warren is not a Cherokee?

No Native American I know talks as much as she does. But when she speaks, it’s self serving “family lore”. But what the hell, if it works…?

Gray- Nope, never heard that particular conspiracy theory before. Cant find any evidence it is true, but not really interested in spending a lot of time on it.
