In Saner Times

I want to draw your attention to a snippet from this column at the Chicago Tribune from John Kass:

In other, saner times, leveraging the political persuasions of absolute madmen against a political opponent would be a signal for a gentleman to rise from the table and leave the room without comment. But now it is the blood of our politics.

Yet whenever I feel that our politics and culture are beyond redemption, someone comes along to prove me wrong, like U.S. Army Pfc. Glendon Oakley Jr. He was at that Walmart in El Paso when the shooting began. Oakley, who has a concealed carry license, ran toward the sound of gunfire, to save as many children as he could. Later, talking about what happened, he sought to direct the media spotlight away from himself and toward the grieving families. And he began to weep.

“I want to look out to the families that were lost and families that lost their children,” he said in El Paso, “because the focus should not be on me, it should be on what happened in Ohio, and what happened in Chicago and what happened yesterday.”

But the focus is not on them. And unfortunately, it is not on the moral courage of Pfc. Oakley.

I wish I had a solution to the problem infecting the United States today. I don’t. I suspect that Trump is a symptom more than the disease. I don’t understand the thinking of anyone who believes that winning an election by 50%+1 votes will cure the disease.

I would think of Trump as both a symptom and a catalyst.

The opposition to Trump is treating him and anybody who doesn’t support them wholeheartedly as an existential threat. Many have convinced themselves that he is Hitler, Atilla, Temujin, Thanos, the barbarian at the gates of all that is good and pure, who must be fought and destroyed no matter what. And his minions too. And they not only believe it but promulgate it. Just now we had a former FBI counterintelligence chief on TV all but accuse the President of having the US flags fly at half-mast through tomorrow (8/8) as a coded signal for ‘Heil Hitler’. How nuts is that? How can you have a rational conversation when people we trusted to protect our NATION against threats are peddling such garbage?
I think what’s happening is the more loony resisters to the results of the 2016 Presidential Election, now that Mueller failed them, are trying to convince themselves that Trump must be removed. By any means necessary. And are seeking justifications to do so. Hence Orange Man White Supremacist.
And once they’ve done that, do they really expect people to just shrug their shoulders and go about their daily business, because once Orange Man Gone, we can trust them not to do to us what they did to him for power’s sake? F**k no.
Remember what David Plouffe tweeted before the 2016 election: ‘It is not enough to simply beat Trump. He must be destroyed thoroughly. His kind must not rise again’. That is the tweet of someone who craves power above all else. A megalomaniac.
God knows I don’t like the President, or many of his policies. But to go completely batshit crazy scorched earth down to doxxing and mobbing people who agree with him? Is regaining and holding and wielding political (and financial power) mean that much to them. Obviously it does.
And that is why we have Trump as our President.

Sorry for the long rant. But when the supposed adults in the room (like Brian Williams) simply nod their heads and go ‘hm’ at such batshittery instead of cutting to a commercial and demanding the network fire this lunatic’s sorry ass on the spot its gets frustrating.

    Speaking of catalysts.

“I can report absolutely that the Durham investigators have now obtained an audiotape deposition of Joseph Mifsud, where he describes his work, why he targeted George Papadopoulos, who directed him to do that, what directions he was given, and why he set that entire process of introducing Papadopoulos to Russia in motion in March of 2016, which is really the flashpoint the starting point of this whole Russia collusion narrative.” – John Solomon

Uh-oh. Hard to have Russian collusion without any Russians. And the FBI setting up people using western assets is a really bad look.

“are trying to convince themselves that Trump must be removed.”

The only party to actually try to remove a president in the modern era, over sex, is the GOP. Remember the birther claims? (I cant seem to remember who lead on that effort? Some fat guy from New York? What was the name?) When you deal with what has actually happened, not conspiracy theory, then you really are just ranting.

Tars, great rant, and wholeheartedly felt by many who don’t support the scorched earth behavior of the newly minted democrat party. They now embrace the fringe!

Steve, the persons starting the birther rumors were HRC and her henchman Bloomingthal. Trump came into the fold after that. Also, Obama contributed to his own birthplace confusion by having the biographical cover, for over a decade (corrected only in 2007 when he was running for president), on an early publication saying he was born in Kenya. Oh yeah, there is also his aunt and half brother both saying his birthplace was Kenya. So, there was some legitimate confusion surrounding this man.

Furthermore, Obama didn’t have a faux investigation hanging over him, an active resistance at every turn of his presidency (only healthy opposition to his policies), and a media that devoid of factual honesty.

“Trump came into the fold after that.”

Trump was the one who carried it well into the presidency, and as we have noted before, HRC doesn’t hold any office.

“Furthermore, Obama didn’t have a faux investigation hanging over him”

ActuAlly, he had several. There were 7 not needed Benghazi investigations just for political purposes just to start. Bit this is just distraction. As I said and you so carefully avoided, only one party in rec ent history actually tried to remove a sitting party, over sex (c0nsensual at that.)
