Today we’ve had only the second down day—a day on which no work was done—since we began our home addition project in early June.
We excavated, poured a foundation for the new addition, and did the rough framing of the addition. We’ve replaced the roof, covering both the new addition and the existing part of the house. The old kitchen (and future butler’s pantry) was demolished. All (or nearly all) of the interior framing has been done. The fireplaces and chimney have been built. The exterior brick is for practical purposes complete. The rough plumbing, electric, and HVAC have been completed. The existing house has been rewired. Our framing and plumbing has been inspected and approved.
We’ve replaced our old furnace and air conditioner and added a new furnace and air conditioner for the addition. Yesterday our phone service was moved from its old place on the outside rear wall (which is now an interior wall) to its new position on the side of the new addition.
As I understand it the next step will be the pouring of the base for the tile floors of the new baths. We’re waiting for the city to inspect the electric which is scheduled for next Wednesday. I’ve been told that our new kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities will arrive in the middle of September.
Between now and then the drywall will go up, the floors put in, and we’ll be picking out tile and making some decisions about the finish carpentry.
I’ve just about run out of gas. I want it to be over.
