Head of U. S. Sales to Leave GM

The hawser from the ship to the dock has got to be pretty crowded at this point. General Motors has announced that its head of U. S. sales, Mark LaNeve, is leaving the company:

Oct. 7 (Bloomberg) — Mark LaNeve, General Motors Co.’s chief of U.S. sales, is leaving the automaker to work for another company, Chief Executive Officer Fritz Henderson said.

Henderson made the announcement during a conference call with media and analysts on the state of the business 90 days after the automaker emerged from a U.S. Treasury-backed bankruptcy. Neither Henderson nor LaNeve, 50, would say where he is going. The announcement may come in a few days, LaNeve said in an e-mail.

No announcement on who’ll replace him but Henderson is quoted as saying that the company could use some fresh perspectives.

Ya think?

What ambitious executive would take a job with GM these days? It seems to me only the supremely confident (even over-confident), those who can’t get jobs anywhere else, or those who plan to take the money and run. Not a cheery prospect.
