I do not think that federal law enforcement officers should have been used in Portland. I think that the local officials should have ended the lengthy protests a long time ago. At the very best sending in federal law enforcement officers was a poor second choice.
Look up the videos. They do not depict lawful assemblies. Illegal fireworks were clearly in evidence. Setting fires and tearing down barriers are classic examples used in illustrating when a lawful assembly has become unlawful and a riot.
As politicos stampede to get their badge of courage, who is next?
Projecting ahead.
What would be the Federal government and the rest of the nation’s response if the Federal Courthouse in Portland burns down.
What should be that response be?
Congressional inquiry into the racial injustice committed in the offending courthouse.
Or, clear the ruins, erect a monument to the memory of George Floyd, and transfer cases out of state.
The Federal government should protect federal interests. Other than that, the officials of Portland and/or OR are in charge, for better or worse. It’s up to the citizenry to either go down, or fight back, presumably at the ballot box, or the threat of the ballot box. Else, people must and will leave in droves.
Maybe next time think twice about electing the incompetent Wheelers or Lightfoots of the world.
“The Federal government should protect federal interests. Other than that, the officials of Portland and/or OR are in charge, for better or worse. ”
Agreed. Just out of curiosity, how do you propose they stop the protests? Full Kent State mode?
Steve
What they will do is nothing; and Federal taxpayers will cover the cost of the foolishness.
What Congress should do is to make every protestor personally liable for the cost of federal protection and federal property damages; without recourse to bankruptcy. If that does not cover the cost; local and state elected officials are also personally liable for all damages for failing stop deter the mob. If that does not cover the damages; the citizens of the state shall be levied a special tax to pay for damages.
In no case should the other states pay for this.
Try not to be stupid, steve.
