I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or to cry over Douglas Schoen’s advice to President Biden at The Hill. His advice boils down to two things:
- An “all of the above” energy policy.
-
“President Biden needs to tighten his rhetoric and match his tough talk against Russia with corresponding action.”
It reminds me of nothing so much as the old Yiddish proverb: “If my grandmother had balls, she’d be my grandfather.”
He can’t do the first. He’d fracture his own caucus if he did. He’s already risking that by releasing oil from the strategic reserve, something they oppose.
And the best he can do on a Ukraine policy is brinksmanship.
So, what can President Biden to improve his approval rating? Keep doing what he’s doing and hope for the best. That’s pretty bleak advice.
“He can’t do the first. He’d fracture his own caucus if he did.”
He could do something crazy, like lead. And do the right thing for America and its citizens.
Nahhh…….
Here’s a question.
Why should Biden care about his approval rating. I have assumed since before 2021 that he would/could serve one term — Biden hinted to Harris that was his plan. Even if Republicans win the House; what are they going to do, impeach Biden and immolate themselves? Republicans look even more disorganized then the Tea Party days…
I purposely left out the obvious response to my snark, and CO hit the right note. Joe Biden has absolutely no chance of running again, and in all likelihood will be a lame duck after November.
So why shouldn’t he set aside his caucus and do the best for the country? One answer of course is that he’s a true believer, which is scary to think about. He’s then delusional.
The second is that his handlers are true believers and just script him before trotting him out in front of the teleprompter. A sacrificial lamb. Again, scary.
The SOR release will not work, or only fade the issue for a week or two. Yet they tried it. Again, scary, and delusional.
Right now, Joe Biden is going to go down in the history books as a dolt. You’d think he’d stop taking his cues from AOC, Rashida……..
Of course, maybe……..
Don’t be too hasty. Being president is an itch that doesn’t go away easily. At this point I expect the 2024 elections to be a rematch of Biden and Trump. Obviously, there are a number of things that could interfere with that prediction: Biden could die, Trump could die, they could both die, or one, the other or both could be persuaded by their political parties not to run. But otherwise I expect both to want to run for president in 2024.
Biden probably isn’t even aware of his own dismal approval rating, as he is encased in delusions of grandeur about the greatness of his presidency, being blue-pilled by the very handlers who are pulling his strings. In the years to follow the troubling Trump/Biden presidencies it will be interesting to see how these two men’s real accomplishments, policies, and ignored corruption impacted the ultimate direction taken by this country.
If Trump is running and Biden is running; Biden really couldn’t care what his approval rating is; he believes he can’t lose.
Someone who’s never won a plurality; disgraced himself on Jan 6, and probably will be under multiple indictments by 2024?
I think the biggest internal impediment to running in 2024 is Harris. There seemed to be understandings between the two camps that Biden would stand down after one term. Of course; Biden wouldn’t be the first to change his mind on matters like these.
“Don’t be too hasty.”
Perhaps. But my working assumption is that it won’t be up to him. Opinions are hardening, and he has some serious issues: 1) crime reduction requires jettisoning DA’s and mayors, 2) inflation is going to have a two/three year run, and 3) a recession (read: stagflation) is an even bet. Further, he is not even pretending to address these issues. He either ignores them, or points the finger elsewhere.
Joe may be clueless, but I don’t think the party is suicidal.
The party’s issue is how to jettison Kamala as well, without alienating a significant portion of the base. The party got sloppy with that affirmative action pick.
Biden was deemed the most electable of the Democrats running for the presidency in 2020. Is he now less electable relative to other prospective Democratic candidates than he was then? Or is he actually more electable by virtue of having been elected in 2020?
IMO the Democrats are stuck with Biden if he cares to run in 2024. However, if Kamala Harris is deemed a liability as seems likely she could be replaced on the ticket (as long as it’s with another black woman).
â€Someone who’s never won a plurality; disgraced himself on Jan 6, and probably will be under multiple indictments by 2024?â€
2024 is years away, with indictments yet to be determined as to who will be on the receiving end of said indictment. More people are saying Hunter is the object of scrutiny, with his father not
far behind in his unscrupulous participation in taking questionable foreign money (bribes).
Regarding indictments, it was written in the New York Times last week that Biden believes Trump should be prosecuted, and Biden told Marrick Garland he needs to stop acting like a judge and more a prosecutor. Doesn’t take much to understand the article was Biden telling Garland to get an indictment underway.
And as this site has noted many times, the Attorney General is the President’s hatchet man. So it is happening.
That’s different from saying whether an indictment is justified or that Trump will be found guilty of a crime.
As to Hunter Biden’s; it does as if he has serious tax liability and possible FARA issues. Open question whether he can settle those issues without a criminal indictment (civil fine?).
Curious,
I read the same comments from Biden wanting Trump to be prosecuted. IOW, Biden wants Trump to be put away for good, as he jeopardizes Biden’s presidency by being more popular than Joe, more beloved by a base of voters. The shadow of a stolen election, believed by almost half the country, is also a reason for Biden wanting to desperately smear Trump, imprisoning him in a destroyed reputation.
