Digging Out

We presently have three feet of snow on the ground here in Chicago and we expect more. While not the greatest snowfall ever, this is certainly the greatest accumulation of snow of recent memory.

It took me a half hour to dig my way from our door to the sidewalk. A neighbor was kind enough to sweep our sidewalk using his snowblower. We’re getting old enough that it’s probably time for us to start thinking along those line. I’m considering a power shovel—essentially a small snowblower.

We live out in the sticks so I have a 2 stage snowblower. Need to be able to throw it pretty far. (Tip: Never run over the newspaper someone leaves in your driveway with your snowblower. Takes forever to pick out the paper.)

We supposedly got seven inches yesterday; my back says nine. Who ya going to believe?

Have to figure out how to pick-up my king cake from the bakery. Probably no street parking for several blocks.

Kind of interesting how people respond to a major snow event, much like wind with many limbs or trees down. One limb, it could lay there all year. Two or three inch snow? Your problem.
But when it’s a big one people jump in and help.
I know this psychological trigger or help threshold should be studied and utilized, but hey, if there’s nothing in it for me…

In my neighborhood everybody (or nearly everybody) helps all of the time.
