Niccolo Machiavelli was born on May 3, 1469 in Florence, Italy. His works are still considered basic in political philosophy. For some reason or other he’s gotten the reputation for being a supporter of cynical conniving but I honestly don’t see how you can draw that conclusion if you’ve actually read his works. Hmm…I don’t think it is that difficult to see the Machiavellian side of goold old Niccolo. The problem is more that some folks ONLY see that side of his work. You are right, there is much more than that in it.
The reason folks only see the ” Machiavellian” side of Machiavelli is that few bother to read anything beyond The Prince, if they even read that.
Discourses is a good antidote to the perception that Machiavelli is an amoralist or a pure realist.
