Megan McArdle, writing at Bloomberg View, tells a shocking story of running out in France for American food. Offhand I’m guessing you can’t get a decent bagel in Saint-Quentin which, if I’m not mistaken, is in Picardy a few clicks southwest of the Belgian border.
I doubt it could be worse than the Chinese food in Germany.
on the flip side, listen to a few Slovak Bluegrass bands, they can get that high lonesome sound down.
I still remember the Tex Mex restaurant in some small town in Normandy. Terrible.
Also, this whole cultural appropriation thing is just bizarre.
When I worked in Germany (which was a very long time ago) it was practically impossible to get a decent steak. The closest you could get was in “Argentine” restaurants. My recollection is that their steaks were tough and rather flavorless. However, practically the only place in Germany I ever got a decent salad was in an Argentine restaurant so it balanced out.
And the Italian restaurants made Chef Boyardi seem great by comparison.
