But the weird thing about modern CMA-style country is how it does not exist outside a certain region. Ray Price? Hank Williams? Yes. Taylor Swift? Sure. Alt-country? Yes. But Garth Brooks? I’ve never heard Garth Brooks in any bar outside of the south.
Maybe it’s the bars you go into. Garth Brooks is the best-selling recording artist in Massachusetts and Maryland as well as the more-expected North and South Carolina. Blake Shelton is the best-selling recording artist in more states than any other.
