If you’re wondering why I’m not hanging on every word exchanged among Korean and American diplomats, I don’t generally comment on press releases. Saying you’re going to do something is not the same as doing something. I don’t much care what they say they’re going to do. I’m much more interested in what they do.
I think that Kim Jong Un has learned a lot from the Chinese. The Chinese authorities can write a heckuva press release.
I agree. Hold off on the Nobel peace prizes until the nuclear weapons are verified dismantled.
It’s interesting there are more reports that the North Korean testing site has been seriously damaged and speculation it’s partially led to Kim’s new approach.
The ‘testing site damage’ theory is to counter the ‘Trump was able to do what his predecessors could not’, ‘Trump will start a nuclear war’, and ‘this is not the norm for how these things are done’ theories.
In the end, I do not care what happens with N. Korea. My neighborhood is not being targeted, and if some gated community in a rich Californian county or city is threatened with being nuked, they should move.
I’d say it’s still a pretty big deal and I think it could represent a major strategic shift. Of course, it’s early days.
Jeffrey Lewis said one of the caverns collapsed, but they still have others. This could be a big deal, but N Korea and China both have a history of big announcements and not much follow through.

Its a big step, now lets see if the satellites show dropped camouflage nets, artillery (and munitions) moving away from the borders and the border guards trading patches. When those things happen the bubbly stuff should be put on nice.
Talk about inscrutable, Kim has done an attitude about-face that makes me blink, and think all is not what it seems here.
Nobel prize? They’re cheap. And remember Trump has said, “we won’t be played here, maybe we get a deal, maybe not”.
We’ll see. I don’t think Kim gets a plane load of cash at least.
