The Chicago story being report in the national news is that of a shooting at a funeral on the South Side. From ABC 7 Chicago:
CHICAGO (WLS) — Chicago police said 15 people were shot at a funeral in the city’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood Tuesday evening.
The shooting took place around 6:30 p.m. in the 1000-block of West 79th Street. Rhodes Funeral Services is located on that block.
Police said a black car was driving westbound on 79th Street when occupants inside began firing at the attendees of a funeral. People at the funeral returned gunfire.
There is speculation that the funeral was of an individual affiliated with a gang. Shoot-ups at such funerals are not unheard of here.
As of yesterday the number of homicides in Chicago has exceeded that of 2017, the most violent year of recent memory and, by my calculation, the most violent ever adjusted to population. The Auburn Gresham neighborhood in which the shootings occurred is one of the half dozen or so neighborhoods in which most of the homicides have taken place.
Has it reached the point it’s no longer a subculture, but the dominant culture of large US cities? Irish funeral was it? Article didn’t say.
Oh, it’s a subculture. At this point “South Side” is practically synonymous with “black”. Chicagoans know that those who live in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood are almost entirely black. 95% or more.
In Chicago, a city having one of the “strictest gun control†laws, it has been reported that when the attendees of the funeral were attacked everyone took out their own gun and returned fire.
Yes, one of Chicago’s problems is illegal guns. It’s unclear to me what laws would prevent the possession or use of weapons that are already illegal. The mayor appears to believe that better federal enforcement would mitigate Chicago’s problems in this regard. Since she rejects the city enforcing federal laws and refuses to accept federal enforcement of its laws it’s unclear to me how this would work.
When one talked aboutâ€violence†Chicago often was associated with that word. Now, Chicago is one of many cities where “violence†is applicable – Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, Los Angeles and other metropolitan areas have been added to the mix of chaotic 2020 cities. And, while Dems may still harp on gun control, it’s the absence of “people-control“ – behavior beyond the pale – that is charring our society’s well being..
These are indeed discouraging, appalling times which our extreme political polarization is only fueling. Even, the upcoming election outcome, IMO, will do little to medicate the deep wounds created amidst the flourishing of dem-nurtured identity politics.
I’ve heard that’s the source of the problem. Crackers peddling guns to Black kids. whites profiting off of Black deaths. Are we sure it’s not BLACK undertakers? I am sorry. I really don’t want to come off as racist or even sarcastic, but reality stares me in the face. Whom do you fear on the streets at night? I know who I fear, and they’re moving in in greater numbers all the time.
