The Chicago Blackhawks have won the 2010 Stanley Cup:
The Chicago Blackhawks and the Stanley Cup landed back in Chicago early this morning, and team members promptly went out partying.
From a private terminal at O’Hare International Airport, the team moved on first to Harry Caray’s restaurant in Rosemont, with some teammates then going to The Pony Inn, 1638 W. Belmont Ave. in the city. They were still enjoying themselves at 7 a.m., with a large crowd of fans outside and bouncers protecting their privacy.
The road-weary Blackhawks arrived at a private terminal at O’Hare International Airport shortly before 4 a.m, little more than six hours after their thrilling overtime victory over the Flyers in Philadelphia.
Team captain Jonathan Toews emerged from the plane hoisting the cup above his head. He and the rest of the Hawks, some bleary eyed and reeking of champagne, paraded the cup around the terminal lobby before pausing to meet with reporters.
From the airport, team members traveled a short distance to Harry Caray’s restaurant in Rosemont for more reveling at a private party.
“That was our moment as a team, and we took full advantage of it,” Toews said at the airport. “Everybody is excited about it.”
Well, that knocks down one of my predictions for 2010. Happily, I might say.
The last time the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup was back in 1961 when the NHL had only six teams. Some would say we’re due. Congratulations to the Blackhawks and to Chicago!
Well, I only got it half right, but I’ll take it. I had the Hawks over New Jersey.
Congratulations Blackhawks and hat’s off to Rocky Wirtz and Scotty Bowman for an amazing 3 year turnaround.
Heh. That’s the problem with staying up until 2 AM watching highlights and interviews……….while sipping on fermented liquid products.
Stan Bowman. And while we are at it, kudos to Dale Tallon and McDonough, and Coach Q.
Now please, please, sign up Patrick Sharpe.
Congrats, says the Flyers fan. Your guys lived in our zone most of the game. Well played.
