As I’ve watched my traffic go up and down and my ranking in the TTLB Ecosystem slowly deteriorate I’ve got to admit to feeling a little discouraged. I haven’t run out of things I want to write about (I’ve got an enormous file full of ideas for future posts). When I reflected on it I realized that I liked the level of traffic I was getting and I liked where I was in the Ecosystem just fine.
When I mentioned my dissatisfaction to our friend, Beth, she put her finger right on the key issue (as she frequently does): You just want to do a better job. That’s exactly right. I want to do a better job.
A bigger audience does not mean a better one.
If I had ten times the number of hits one day because I wrote something that by the quirk of search engine logic, pulled in a lot of 14 year old fans of goth culture, I haven’t accomplished much.
GE is a superb blog. You’re doing well my friend.
Thank you, Mark. Much appreciated. That’s the conclusion I’ve come to, as well.
fwiw, I think you are producing one of the best blogs around. Most likely the problem is that there are so many blogs and so little time that people get hooked into a couple of the biggest blogs when the first get online and don’t have time to venture out. If you really wanted to expand readership then you need to get some buddies at bigger blogs to link to you.
Keep up the good work, and THANKS.
