You might want to read this op-ed in USA Today. Self-described “female, practicing Muslim human rights activist” writes something that may strike many readers like a bolt out of the blue:
There, I said it: Donald Trump is right.* With an asterisk.
Before we get to that asterisk, you may be asking yourself: Why is a female, practicing Muslim human rights activist like myself saying what many in Trump’s own party cannot bring themselves to say?
Because Trump is right. About certain things. Certain things about radical Islam, which I have been calling to the world’s attention for the past 20 years.
And I am not just saying this because like Trump, I too proposed “a moratorium on immigration from Muslim countries for a set period till matters here settle down.†A year before he did.
There’s an old wisecrack that even a stopped clock is right twice a day. I hope that Donald Trump’s blowhardiness and arseholiness doesn’t cover his occasional commonsensical proposal with slime but I fear that’s the case.
The op-ed also might at least raise a few questions about who will vote for Trump and who won’t. See also this post at National Interest by Peter Navarro.
The things Trump has proposed that are sensible (curbing illegal immigration, questioning the need to import people from Muslim countries, questioning trade agreements, questioning the need for both endless foreign adventurism & reflexive hostility towards Russia) were and are already considered absolute anathema by the oligarchs that run the country, and the turds they own in government, media, and academia. It took someone like a Trump to get the ideas heard in the first place.
To suggest any one of those ideas is to make one WORSE THAN HITLER, but to suggest all of them? Shit, it’s amazing that we’ve got someone crazy enough and brash enough and rich enough to get any of it heard. Hell, CNN just makes up anti-Trump stories now like the old Weekly World News used to make up stories about famed psychics heads exploding or sixty foot sharks eating thirty foot sailboats. If the other politicians hadn’t all already been bought & paid for, they’d be scared to face that kind of wrath.
@Icepick
… the old Weekly World News used to make up stories …
I will assume you have stopped taking your medication. The Weekly World News did not “make up stories”. I suppose that Bat Boy was just doctored photographs. Like Ed Anger used to say, “I am pig biting mad.”
If I were you, I would watch my back. Bat Boy is probably “pig biting mad” also, and he might come swooping down to have a chat with you.
Trump has been right about quite a few things. Of course, he may then take the opposite position a few days later. And he doesn’t have much in the way of policies to address the problems he recognizes, but he is occasionally right.
Steve
Bat Boy was the shit!
Back in the day one of WWN’s interns wrote an article for my (then) local college newspaper about how they researched their articles. It was fantastic stuff! I never wanted to work anywhere so badly! It’s a damned shame they’ve been supplanted by reality. Seriously, what have they got to compare to this Presidential election? On the one hand, Trump. On the other a candidate so corrupt that her people are openly concerned because they don’t have any idea which scandal will pop up next from all the computer hacks that have been done against them because the candidate has insisted on zero security measures through the years? (The latest: The Clinton Foundation itself may have been hacked. If I had hacked it, I’d keep the info to myself, hoping she’d get elected. Then I’d own the President of the USA!)
Bat Boy running for President wouldn’t be as weird. Hey, wait a minute….
@Icepick
I used to get WWN as often as possible, and I would cite it as an authoritative source. For a lot of people, what is written must be correct. It would drive them insane. If WWN is lying, how do you know the other news media are not lying. This was long before it was fashionable to question the mainstream media, or the concept “mainstream media” had been conceived.
Peggy Noonan had an opinion piece in the WSJ last week that you might find interesting. How Global Elites Forsake Their Countrymen (You can get to it through a Google link. Search for the title and click on the WSJ link.)
She seems to be slowly, but rapidly increasingly, getting it.
