Everything in the whelping box is very safe for the puppies, Yani. I’m not sure what you’re referring to as an ice pack—keeping new puppies warm (either using heat lamps or heating pads or both)is usually what a breeder tries to do. I suspect that what you’re seeing is a toy—they’re supposed to bite it.
Aliy’s puppies are indeed sleeping on ice packs. At 4 days old they began screaming for hours at a time. A quick trip to the vet and the diagnosis was – hot puppies.
For the next week they had cold wet washcloths to lie on. At a week and half they “graduated” to ice packs… which are actually RubberMaid Blue Ice blankets (available at Wal-Mart, Target, etc. I made little flannel covers for them.
The puppies sleep on them and yes, occasionally bite at them. They are filled with a non-toxic substance that won’t hurt them.
It’s true most puppies need warmth, but Samoyeds ar arctic dogs and require lower temperatures tham many other breeds.
I wanna know, is the ice pack safe for the puppies? because onetimes I watched puppies bite it. and does it not cause effect for their bone?
