So, who plans to watch the debate tonight. I’m pretty sure my wife will insist that we watch it. Otherwise I would avoid it and read the commentaries tomorrow. I suspect it will be pretty painful.
I agree with one of the things they’ve said will be done wholeheartedly—when it’s one of the candidates turn to speak muting the mike of the other candidate. I think the presumption is that will affect Mr. Trump more than it will Mr. Biden. Who knows?
Other changes from past presidential candidates’ debate format include no opening statements and no studio audience. I honestly wish these events were actual formal debates.
My ideal format is the moderator asks a generic open-ended question;
“Please explain your foreign policy if elected”; “Please explain your domestic policy if elected”; “Please explain your management style if elected”.
Each candidate gets 5 minutes with no interruptions, then 10 minutes in a free-for-all with no moderator involvement.
I think Curious’ recitation reflects my own most closely. Won’t happen.
I can hear it now, (Jake Tapper) “President Trump, because you instigated an insurrection, are a bald faced traitor, idolize Putin and Hitler, and will throw your political opponents into jail day one, can you explain why any sane person would vote for such a horrible person as yourself?
Dana Bash. “President Biden, given the magnificent job you have done in resurrecting America from the pure hell of your predecessor, can you tell us of the glories you will bestow upon us in a second term? ”
Its going to be a farce.
Wont watch it. Waste of time. They will interrupt each other. They will answer the questions they want to answer and not what they are asked. There is no penalty for lying and just making up stuff. It’s a performance and not a debate. Might be fun if they could get the moderator that ran the Colorado R primary debate.
