I don’t comment on the various White House hirings and firings. No play-by-plays. I only have this to say. Trump is a lousy manager. Historically, over the period of the last 60 or 70 years, presidents have taken either a staff management or a micromanagement strategy.
Ike set the pattern for staff management. You hire a good staff, you support them, you establish the objectives, the staff executes them. Republicans have tended to use this approach.
Clinton and Carter were both micromanagers. They wanted to make every decision, write every memo, and administer every department themselves. Democrats have tended to be micromanagers.
Trump isn’t trusting enough to be a staff manager and he’s not assiduous enough to be a micromanager. One of the tells on his problems: he pits his underlings against each other. GWB did that, too, and IMO it’s a sign of a weak manager.
Agree completely. He governs more like an autocrat frankly.
Good point, true, but his instincts are very good, I’m still in his corner.
Poor manager? Trump is a billionaire. You, and I, are not. Trump is POTUS. You and I are not.
Trump started with a couple hundred million and comes from a politically connected family. You and I did not. Being POTUS automatically makes you a good manager? Really?
Some people do well in their niche. His was real estate. I don’t know why that would automatically make him good at everything else. Only doctors get to claim they know everything about everything. Well, lawyers and engineers too. (God, I hope this is taken as sarcasm.)

Yes. I worked for just such a guy (and he was a Forbes 400 type) and you have obviously seen it as well. To riff off of Steve’s point, this guy was a good deal guy and had an eye for value. But a manager he was not. He had a stable of guys who put up with his crap and cleaned up his messes. Why they stayed I do not know. I lasted 18 months and that was it. Life is too short.
If critics of Trump were not generally so hysterical they would recognize this shortcoming. It’s actually a real issue, not whether he exaggerates crowd sizes etc. I hope he retains some strong personalities around him.
Good or bad manager he has to deal with the fact that some of his people are actively plotting against him and his agenda
