A Quiet Night of Protests in Kenosha

The fourth night of protests in Kenosha appears to have passed peacefully. We’ll wait for the weekend there with bated breath.

Of the three alternatives—ongoing riots, vigilante justice, and rigorous law enforcement—I think the last is by far the best alternative. I don’t have much else to say about the situation in Kenosha.

Is that sarcasm or a realistic assessment of the situation last night?

At this point; it is so hard to tell.

  • It wasn’t intended as sarcasm on my point. As of when I wrote the post the Kenosha and Milwaukee papers were reporting that things were much quieter in Kenosha last night.

To the best of my knowledge there were continued demonstrations but no riot, burning, or looting last night.

Could it be that the vigilante killings in Kenosha kept people home?
That there is a personal level of danger unacceptable to rioters?
That protesters understand that police killings, while tragic, still have a predictability, a logic, and therefore avoid-ability that vigilante killings do not?
That you can yell and throw rocks and bottles at the police all night long and not fear for your life but with vigilantes, you never know?

WI governor finally agreed to have the feds send in help, according to DJT’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows. That may have calmed things down a bit.

Federal prosecutors do not hand out get-out-of-free tickets the way local and state Social Justice Warrior DAs do. Yeah, I’d behave if I knew a feddy might cuff me for ‘peaceful’ protesting and I knew I was looking at five to ten in the pen down the road.

Yeah, they don’t much like it when they get to experience random lethal violence instead of dishing it out.
