A Question of Math

If something is 99.994% right, is it 100% wrong?

Give me an objective definition, and I will give you an objective answer.

Is 127.99 ounces of water a gallon? No, it is a 100% not a gallon of water.

Only in physics. Let me riff on the concept, though. It has become a favorite activity to label Trump a liar for the type of exaggeration and self promotion all politicians engage in. Just look on any given day at a blog like OTB or a TV channel like CNN, or thE WaPo. It started with crowd size. I mean, seriously? And practitioners show no sense of proportion. Blaming the attack on our consulate to a mob enraged by a YouTube video (or I’ll reduce your healthcare premiums) vs the effects of a tax cut, or the motivations of a bunch of El Salvador flag waiving “refugees?”

    Who, really, are the liars?

    @Drew

You will not pay one penny more than what you value something, but if you pay one penny more, your valuation was too low.

At an auction, nobody overpays. The bidding war has a value for some people. For some people, they spend $600.00 for a Beanie Baby, but the additional $590.00 is for some other value.

Risk tolerance or aversion has value that can be added or subtracted from the ‘face value’ of something.

Because all the constituent parts are not known does not mean that they do not exist.

Her is what Rice actually said.

“We believe that folks in Benghazi, a small number of people came to the embassy to — or to the consulate, rather, to replicate the sort of challenge that was posed in Cairo. And then as that unfolded, it seems to have been hijacked, let us say, by some individual clusters of extremists who came with heavier weapons, weapons that as you know in — in the wake of the revolution in Libya are — are quite common and accessible. And it then evolved from there.

We’ll wait to see exactly what the investigation finally confirms, but that’s the best information we have at present.”

The GOP then went out and did 8 investigations, and they found out that what she said was really what our intel services believed to be true. This was the case in Afghanistan where they ritoed and killed people over the video. So, thank you very much GOP for providing the proof that the false story you perpetuate is not true. Of course Drew still believes it, so maybe investigation number 9 will prove he is correct. I think you should go for it. (Also note that she says we need an investigation to know what really happened.)

The thing about Trump’s lies is that they are so often so brazen and so obvious. Sure, everyone spins, he just blows past that and lies, even when there is no real need to do so.

Also, on the Obama big lie about keeping your insurance? Best estimates are that 1%-2% of people actually lost their insurance due to the ACA. If you are 98% correct, are you 100% wrong?

Heh. Nice try, steve. Who am I gonna believe, you or my lying eyes and ears? Watch them both.

And the quote was about premiums. You try this sleight of hand all the time. Why are you so dishonest?

Not that you will care about the truth, but lets take the second youtube first. Months later, when this occurred, we knew the story. AT THE TIME of the attack, there were stories released that there had been a protest. Also, if you read there actual conclusions of all the investigations, not just one guy attacking someone scoring points, the story released was the best assessment of the intel services AT THAT time. To be honest, your effort really sucks here. Try harder.

On the first youtube Clinton is technically correct if you actually listen to her. She said embassies (plural) were attacked. True in Cairo and in Afghanistan. Nowhere does she say that they attacked in Libya because of the video. (OK, I didn’t watch the last minute of this. Seemed like a waste of time, especially as you know that the big brouhaha was really over the Rice statement, which I have quoted.)

“And the quote was about premiums.”

Yes, and so what? I was simply pointing out that the Obama statement about keeping your doctor, which was named as the lie of the year, was actually 98% correct. Believe it or not I dont really have to respond to everything you say. Note that I give you the Rice quote, and you then change to Clinton. I guess I should say that was dishonest of you too? I can accept that you didn’t want to respond to that without calling names. I suggest you do the same. Now if I got the facts wrong about the Obama claim, that might be dishonest, though more likely I just didn’t look it up and it is from memory.

Steve, I think you are a good, decent person. However, you tend to torture technicalities in order to make your points and be “right.”

The Benghazi affair would have been treated so differently had the same set of circumstances occurred on the watch of a conservative president. The death of a U.S. ambassador and 3 U.S. citizens, under assault for some 13 hours with no help on the way, and a conservative president absent that night, leaving for a LV fundraiser the next morning would have created mass hysteria and unrelenting criticism from the media and dems. The press also would never have forgiven such a president for the blatant lies, hidden in technical truths, the constant misinformation that flowed for well over a month, accompanied by a stonewalling of documents for years by a conservative administration.. Just look at how the current president is being hammered in exhibiting a measured response over the last 2-3 weeks, for the overseas murder of a Saudi nationalist with murky ME ties!

I just don’t see how you are so oblivious to the textural differences in media and democrat posturing regarding these 2 incidences, in which Benghazi, was far more lethal in deaths, injuries, and collateral damage to a country versus the current Khashoggi controversy.

You need to stop digging the hole, steve. There was nothing ambiguous about what Clinton said. And Obama just sat there and let her run with it. And to think they said it in that venue, just to avoid the political fallout.

    As for Susan Rice:

Spin away if you like steve. You fool only yourself.

And I notice you didn’t address your similar shell game on premiums.

  • Gray Shambler Link

    YES! .006% of the time.

  • Steve Link

Correct. Nothing ambiguous about what Clinton said. She was correct, you just have to hear what you want to hear. The premium claim, if you really want me to address it should probably count as a lie of sorts, but it is not really possible to prove. Would premiums have been $2500 higher if we had not passed the ACA? I doubt it. This is the vague kind of not provable claims politicians make all the time.

So, your turn. You avoided the change your doctor comment. If he was 98% correct, should it be the lie of the year?

Jan Your entire argument is the made up supposition of what would have happened if a conservative was president. All those concerns you bring up were looked at in the eight investigations and are not real issues. Wanna try for a ninth?

Susan Rice is an idiot or liar.

In shithole countries, especially the violent ones, it is normal to see everybody carrying AK-47’s, most likely the Chinese knock-offs, and because nobody knows how to properly clear a weapon, it is normal to hear gunfire. (They drop the magazine and fire the last round.)

So, finding protesters carrying automatic weapons at a protest would not be unusual. Now, showing up with crew-served weapons is another story. You do not carry a mortar on your back.

As to a rescue attempt, there are a few factors that determine what to do. Is this a diversion? Is there enough equipment and personnel? Is the time-frame adequate? Things can turn to shit faster than you can imagine (re: Mogadishu, Somalia 1993).

If you really think that it is just a protest gone awry, there is no reason to not send a rescue team. So, which is it – idiot or liar?

(I will cut some slack for the Obama administration. Few of them were in the military, and most likely, Susan Rice does not have the foggiest idea of the difference between an automatic rifle and a machine gun, much less a crew served weapon.)
