A Harsh Condemnation

I think this may be the first time I have ever linked to a post in The Federalist. Josiah Lipincott delivers a scathing indictment of the general staff:

Instead of profiles in courage, America’s military leaders deserve profiles in grifting. Current Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin made $7 million once leaving the service. Gen. James Mattis is reportedly worth $5 million, including $150,000 annual payouts from Theranos for serving on their board. Theranos was a blood-testing company indicted for fraud. Not a single senator asked Mattis about the connection at his confirmation hearing as secretary of defense. Gen. David Petraeus, after leaving the CIA in disgrace after revelations of leaking classified information to his mistress and personal biographer Paula Broadwell, went on to a successful career in academia, public speaking, and private equity. His net worth is estimated at $2 million.

The generals lied, America lost, and the people got looted.

I’m more inclined to blame the Congress than the generals. The numbers he cites above are a rather horrifying illustration that even 60 years later the Military-Industrial Complex is alive and well.

Presented without comment, other than do we need to consider the Medical Industrial Complex as well?

OK, I will bite. Trying to avoid some work anyway. There is a lot wrong here but lets just look at this.

“The vaccines are clearly not working as promised. Large numbers of vaccinated patients are getting sick. I remember when I did the guest post back in December about the Pfizer trials. I was and am gravely concerned about the medical establishment in the guise of the Editors of NEJM referring to these miraculous vaccines, perfect in every way, as a triumph. ”

No!! No medical journals ever said these vaccines were perfect in every way. They cited effectiveness in the 93%-95% agains the variants extant at the time for the RNA vaccines. They reported lower success rates for Astra Zeneca in the 75%-80% range but 90% or better at preventing severe disease. This is actually almost an exact quote I have seen from other right wing sources. So first, i suspect this is some troll and not really a physician. If it is a physician he/she is a liar.

However, assuming that the difference between anecdote and data is understood here it is from the KFF.

One thing that is correct is that we have lost a fair number of nurses. This surge among the unvaccinated is not helping.

On topic, this is old news.

General’s retiring with a million or two in net worth isn’t all that surprising. Not counting any spousal income, most flag-level officers get $200k in pay (this is capped) plus housing and other allowances which can push that up to $250k/year.

Then if they retire at 30 years, they’ll get about $150k/year in retired pay for the rest of their lives. If they stay till 40, it’s the full $200k/year. Add in executive-level pay which is probably going to be at least several hundred thousand plus stock options. Even without a spouse, or money from speaking fees if you’re a famous general, it’s not difficult to build an even higher net worth pretty quickly.

Apparently all doctors hailing from Indiana are not slavish disciples of the CDC and other members of the M-I-C.

There are a lot of different views out there. And those who think the M-I-E are pure need to leave Kansas.

Case A: Fauici silent on Obama’s party, Lalapalooza etc……………but oh those awful bikers. Yeah, he’s credible. Apolitical.

  • The arguments about COVID-19 policy are Exhibit A in the point I’m making in another post (about consensus). The only agreement I can see is that each group thinks the other is detestable. It all reminds me of Robert Benchley’s wisecrack: there are two kinds of people in the world—those who divide people into two kinds and those who don’t.

The Obamas and the A listers are clean.
Only the lower classes carry disease .
Sturgis is primarily an outdoor gathering anyway and both groups are furthering herd immunity so fine with me.
