My Mom in Oaxaca

My dad took this picture of my mom about 60 years ago in Oaxaca, Mexico. I think she still may have that dress and a blouse she bought at the same time. You can click on the picture for a larger image.

This is an example of the fading I want to correct. It’s not extremely severe but it definitely needs doing.

  • What a lovely woman. Your father had an excellent eye for framing; I noticed that in the earlier street scene, too. Here, the height of the plants and how they frame your mother, and the joining together of the floral pattern of the dress with the flowers on the plants is wonderful.

I don’t know how to fix the fading, but I’ll ask my wife, who has some expertise with Photoshop from when she worked for a national magazine. I suspect that there are photo restoration services that could fix these in prints, if not on the original negatives.

  • Your mom is beautiful. I’m betting she lit up Oaxaca.

I’ve been there and would love to have been there then. Did she tell you any stories about the trip?
