How Universal Is the Four Day Week?

Is it my imagination or do things become very, very quiet on Fridays these days? I know that traffic at this blog drops sharply on Fridays which suggests to me that a lot of people read blogs from work and that they aren’t at work on Fridays.

Has the four day work week become universal?

It certainly isn’t with me. I devote at least as much time to billed work on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays as I do the rest of the week. Practically speaking, I’m always at work.

On the other hand I make my own schedule and I don’t commute which gives me a lot of freedom of action. My chains are largely of my own making.

Weren’t you recognized as one one of the best blogs to get informed by a website that said Fridays were the best day to get informed? I can’t find it on your site, but I recall that being strange because blogs don’t seem active on Friday either.

I was told yesterday that at one of the larger state agencies most people either do not work on Fridays or they work only every other Friday. I’ve noticed for some time that government compensation seems increasingly towards paid vacation days, a lot of which appear to be taken to make three-day vacations. As we are looking at unpaid furlough days to meet the budget shortfall, I think this is going to be a problem.

I like Fridays at the office, they’re quiet.

    I blame casual Friday.

  • That’s one of the reasons I like working weekends and evenings. My clients aren’t constantly interrupting me.
