Eye on the Watcher’s Council

As you may know the members of the Watcher’s Council each nominate one of his or her own posts and one non-Council post for consideration by the whole Council. The complete list of this week’s Council nominations is here.

The dominant topic among submissions both Council and non-Council was the conflict in Gaza.

Joshuapundit, “It’s Hard Out There For A ( Hamas) Pimp”

Freedom Fighter comments on the hostilities in Gaza have affected sex trafficking between the Egyptian side and Gaza. Off hand it sounds like both Hamas and the Egyptian traders are behaving like governments.

Rhymes With Right, “On The Conflict Against Hamas”

Greg comments Israel’s conflict against Hamas in Gaza.

Bookworm Room, “Taking Reagan’s name in vain”

Bookworm posts on Ronald Reagan, peace, ethical justice, and nuclear disarmament, using an op-ed by Sen. Dianne Feinstein as a stepping off point. I found Sen. Feinstein’s op-ed confused but not as objectionable as Bookworm apparently did.

The Glittering Eye, “Money for the States?”

In my submission for this week I ruminate about the possibility of extending the stimulus packages being bandied about to the states. Imagine a world in which the states were held to standards at least as high as the pitiably low ones we’re holding corporations to.

Cheat-Seeking Missiles, “Portrait of an Arse as a Dead Man”

Laer posts on slain Hamas leader Nizar Rayyan.

Soccer Dad, “Nyt: hamas upgrades = success / israel defends = disaster”

Soccer Dad points out the anti-Israel bias in the New York Times’s coverage of the situation in Gaza.

The Razor, “‘Physician Shortage’ and the Free Market”

Scott considers the shortage of primary case providers. I think there are other things that bear mentioning in that regard including the number of physicians graduated annually hasn’t changed appreciably in 30 years, the number of billets for more highly compensated specialists has increased, and the role of international medical graduates. One thing that shouldn’t be ignored: there’s already a shortage of primary care providers and if universal coverage plans are enacted the problem will become that much more acute.

Right Truth, “It’s a Terrifying World”

Debbie notes the foreign policy challenges that the incoming administration will have on its plate. Not all of them are far away.

Mere Rhetoric, “Concise List Of Middle East Failures That Were Going To Happen Anyway But That Foreign Policy Experts Will Now Blame On Israel”

Omri dissect’s Blake Hounshell’s litany of complaints about Israel

The Colossus of Rhodey, “Dopey WNJ Letter of the Week”

Hube fisks a letter to the editor.

The Provocateur, “Jews, Israel and the Democratic Party”

Mike wonders why the Democratic Party continues to maintain its hold on the Jewish vote.

Well, I’ve decided which posts I’ll vote for this week. Which posts would get your votes?
