Nobody does anything about it

The news here in Chicago, of course, is the weather:

Don’t go out unless you have to.

That’s the advice from Chicago’s top emergency officials, as the city struggled with its coldest Feb. 4 since 1996.

Sunday’s low was 6 below zero.

Today, temperatures will dawn around 10 below zero and peak around zero midday, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a wind-chill advisory — when the wind can feel as cold as 30 below — until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

When I rose this morning the temperature was -10°F with a windchill of -24°F.

The dogs have been driving me crazy: this kind of weather energizes them tremendously and, not only would they prefer to be outside, they want me to be outside with them.

But the frigid temperatures today are too cold even for them and I’ve got to be careful not to cave into the pack’s preferences. Ten minutes and they’re back inside.

I’ve seen quite a few bloggers from the Midwest kvetching about global warming theorists with the low temperatures we’re seeing. Greater variability—swings between unseasonably warm and unseasonably cold—is exactly what the theorists predict, including more severe thunderstorms and more powerful hurricanes. More heat equals more energy equals more weather.
