Yesterday I wrote that my wife and I were embarking on a grand adventure. And here they are. These are Will and Nola. Nola’s full registered name will be Kendara’s Showboat. We haven’t finalized Will’s registered name.
In both of the pictures Nola is on the left and Will on the right.
This is Will. I don’t know that I’ve ever encountered a more gentle and loving puppy.
I have yet to get a really good picture of Nola. She’s always moving.
Not all adventures involve travelling to faraway places or things that are dangerous or outlandish. Some involve taking the responsibility for shaping small lives, a responsibility that will last for many years, possibly the rest of my life.
I wonder who they will be. Thye’re just nine weeks old. I know that they will both be magnificent therapy dogs and good friends. Will Will be a great sled dog? Will Nola be an accomplished agility dog? Will either of them become search and rescue dogs like their distant cousin Jason before them? Will either become a Master Working Samoyed like Qila?
Puppies are really fascinating creatures. They’re so new and soft and intelligent and curious—soaking everything in.
I’m exhausted already.

My wife can’t remember a time when she didn’t have a Sam (her folks had one when she was born) and we’ve got five Sams.
Oh such beautiful creatures! Lately I have been wishing for a puppy, I guess since I saw my Sufi Dog in Kurdistan, the same one in a photo on a farm I took last year. Dogs are truly wonderful companions to us, a blessing.
