Dismantling the shed

Dismantling the shed

Yesterday, true to his word, Cooper, the chap who’s built our new shed and will dismantle and haul away the old shed and replace it with the new, arrived around noon to take a look at the site and disassemble the old shed.  It was raining lightly and I hadn’t actually expected him to show.

Although we’d spoken on the phone this was the first time we’d met.  Cooper was a handsome man in, perhaps, his early 40’s, tremendously personable.

Over the next couple of hours we dismantled the old shed together, sometimes chatting, sometimes only tending to our work.  I mostly gathered the pieces to be disposed of, carefully ensuring that no nails or sharp pieces capable of piercing a dog’s (or wife’s) bare foot remained behind.

Sometimes as he worked Cooper sang softly to himself, a fine light baritone.  It’s been a long time since I’ve heard that.  What a joy to encounter a man who loves his work!
