Catching my eye: morning A through Z

Here’s what’s caught my eye this morning:

  • The Becker-Posner Blog’s topic this week is the riots in France. Becker here. Posner here. A Nobel Prize-winning economist and a distinguished jurist focus their combined brainpower on the issue. And you get to comment in the comfort of your own blogosphere.
  • Abu Aardvark elaborates further on his post on the paucity of articles on terrorism or al-Qaeda in scholarly journals (which I commented on here).
  • From Across the Bay:

“Speculative Comment” just doesn’t have the same ring to it as “Informed Comment.”

  • Jeff at Beautiful Atrocities has posted a comparison of his home state of California with France and it’s rather alarming. If you live in California. If you don’t, it’s funny.
  • Blog-friend Dan Berczik of Bloggledygook is celebrating his first blogiversary with a nice tribute post. Dan’s one of the best bloggers around so swing on by and congratulate him.
  • You might want to read this article on the odious Sarbanes-Oxley Act. I’ve been meaning to post on the subject and have never gotten around to it. It’s not just small publicly-held companies that are suffering. I’ve got clients who are privately held that are being required to conform to Section 404 by their large customers. And our overseas competitors don’t conform to Sarb-Ox. Just what you want to do when you’ve got worldwide competitors: add friction to the system. Hat tip: Catallarchy.
  • Norm Geras notes a project to identify the world’s worst sound. You can listen to the candidate sounds here. Oddly, Ashlee Simpson does not appear among the available choices.
  • There’s an interesting post from Window on the Arab World on the challenges facing Jordan and its king, Abdullah, in dealing with terrorism.

That’s the lot.
