Ronnie Barker, 1929-2005

Outside the Beltway notes that British comedian Ronnie Barker died yesterday.

Barker and Corbett’s rendition of Bizet’s Carmen on “The Two Ronnies” remains for me one of television’s funniest moments. Tomfoolery that complex, brilliant, and downright hilarious is high art and extremely rare.

Ronnie Barker was not only a great comic script writer but a very accomplished actor with immaculate timing in comedy roles. He was also always a gentleman, showing true consideration to everyone he came in contact with. I only ever saw him on television being interviewed or programs where his fellow actors and associates were talking about him but there was a very real common thread, – that he was a thoroughly decent human being.
