Photoblogging the Fourth: the Sauganash parade, 2005

Despite threatening rain the Sauganash Fourth of July parade was as grand as ever.

We’re getting ready to watch the parade. For some reason or other Qila is not a bit happy about the whole thing.
Several of my neighbors throw parade parties. He’s a carpenter, she’s a teacher.
Another parade party. He’s a banker, she’s a teacher (and journalist).
The parade’s a-comin’!
There are always a few local politicians in the parade. This is Margaret Laurino, Alderman of our ward, the Chicago 39th Ward. And a neighbor.
Local merchants take part.
This is something new. I don’t recall having any exotic animals in the parade before. This time around we had a camel.
And a tiger. This cat was incredibly laid-back.
  Now that is an outfit.
But for me the best part of the parade is that it’s a real community event. Everybody takes part. There were probably twice the number of people in the parade as there were watching the parade.
More of my neighbors showing their community spirit by marching in the Sauganash parade.
Bringing up the rear.
