The president’s new national security strategy was announced today and a pre-release copy has been published at Foreign Policy. Other than that it isn’t new, it isn’t about security, and it isn’t strategy it appears to be a fine document.
I’ve read about a quarter of the document. After I simmer down I plan to read the rest and I may make some additional observations then. I left my initial reactions in the comments to James’s post, cited above.
I need to go back and re-read Bush’s 2006 NSS for comparison. The Obama NSS just felt like a gigantic piece of fluff and rhetoric – a “state of the union” speech, like you said over at OTB.
The specific complaint I’ve read by military folks is that this NSS is no better than Bush’s 2006.
