Why I Haven’t Posted About Tibet

The reason I haven’t been posting about the suppression of dissent by the Chinese in Tibet is, simply put, because we’re not going to do anything about it any more than we did about Burma. A few harsh words will be about as far as it will go and words alone won’t influence the Chinese regime at all because they have bigger fish to fry e.g. promoting stability within their domain.

It’s easy to understand why that is: it’s not in our national interest to antagonize China too much about things that are of indirect interest to us. We won’t threaten our direct interests for indirect interests.

I’ve disagreed with the U. S. China policy nearly all of my life and the most I can say at this point is “I told you so.”
