Where There’s Smoke

I haven’t read the story, just the headline: “West Wing briefly evacuated due to smoke, Secret Service says”. Talk about crying out for a Top 10 List. Think about the top 10 reasons smoke was coming out of a White House closet.

According to Politico, yesterday 14 news organizations (including TV, print and online) were selected to be a part of an exclusive group privy to what was initially called an off the record’ meeting, and then changed to a deep background’ one on Benghazi. Such a meeting postponed the daily WH press briefing (mainly on Benghazi), leaving everyone else to, I guess, twiddle their thumbs.

Has this kind of media division ever happened in prior administrations, and then considered ‘normal’ or transparent by those reporting on it?

And then today, Saturday, is when the West Wing evacuation occurred because of smoke. If one believed in celestial whistle blowers, Where there is smoke there is fire might be under consideration

Short answer: yes. It’s standard operating procedure to favor some reporters over others. Or did you just not notice that Mr. Bush spoke mostly to Fox?

It’s an old game. Goes back at least to Truman that I know of, and probably much further back.

  • So… the White House is electing its own new Pope?
