What’s the Opposite of “On a Roll”?

I’ve been in the doldrums here for a while. Last week was my least productive week in terms of posts written since I began this blog nearly four years ago.

There are a number of reasons for this. First, I find inspiration for my own posts in those of others and much of what’s being written these days is color commentary on the infighting between the aspirants for their parties’ nominations for the presidency which interests me not at all. Second, world events are blessedly peaceful. Yes, yes, I know that horrible things are still going on in Iraq, the Iranian mullahs are just as ghastly as ever, millions of Chinese are still poor beyond my imagining, and the U. S. economy is heading for a turndown. I’ve commented about all of those things from time to time and until something new rears its head I’ve said my piece on them.

Lastly, my actual work has absorbed a great deal of my time and between the work, the pain, and the exhaustion my reading and writing have suffered.

Yesterday I wrote and published five posts, four on The Glittering Eye and one, a commentary on an article on idealist foreign policy, at Outside the Beltway. I’ve started working on a few ideas and may have something more substantial posted soon.

Meanwhile, not everyone seems to have suffered as I have. One of my all-time favorite bloggers, Callimachus at Done With Mirrors, is really on a roll with a number of posts of surpassing excellence just in the last week. Go over there and keep scrolling.
