There Can Be Only One

Does anybody think that Steve Jobs would have let the Apple Maps app out the door in its present condition? I don’t.

In related news the iPhone 5 sold 5 million units in its first weekend of release. That’s on optimistic expectations of 10 million units. Apple stock has dropped. Looks like the iPhone 5 won’t be providing that GDP boost some were predicting.

While I’m on the subject of Apple, Foxconn has shuttered its plant temporarily after a riot broke out there. Bet Apple is thinking about second sourcing right about now.

I have an iphone 4 and an ipad and won’t be upgrading it to IOS6 for a while. There’s the maps issue, but also many ios6 features do not apply to our older phones. We’re done with our two-year contract and could upgrade and/or switch, but I don’t see any reason to do so at this point.

No, I can’t imagine he would have. iOS6 is actually a significant improvement for my iphone – with the exception of the maps app which is just horrid. If they don’t fix it soon, I’ll be switching over to a Windows phone next spring.

  • I’m still on my 3-GS, but will skip a generation when I upgrade (with the AT&T discount). I have already updated the OS to iOS6 with no major issues beyond the sucky map.

I find it interesting that a map issue that Google had with showing my address six years ago (and fixed within 10 days of my notifying them) is replicated with Apple Maps. They must have bought some really old databases.
