The Prisoner Swap

I’m sincerely glad that Brittney Griner is being released from a Russian prison. I hope she avoids foreign travel in the future.

I guess she won’t be playing on a Russian team anymore.

Given my employment history and leaks/hacks of OPM and other databases, I understand I can no longer safely travel to some countries, especially China and Russia. That shouldn’t be the case with a sports star, but Americans have always been vulnerable to behind targeted overseas for surveillance or hostage-taking.

I guess we should be glad for her and her family but what she did was stupid. I wouldn’t have felt bad if we didnt get her out. I also think that in general Americans should realize that risks are high when they travel to Russia and should avoid it.

Whelan family had a noice statement.

““I am so glad that Brittney Griner is on her way home,” David Whelan, Paul’s twin brother, said in a statement Thursday via ABC’s Jay O’Brien. “As the family member of a Russian hostage, I can literally only imagine the joy she will have, being reunited with her loved ones, and in time for the holidays. There is no greater success than for a wrongful detainee to be free and for them to go home. The Biden Administration made the right decision to bring Ms. Griner home, and to make the deal that was possible, rather than waiting for one that wasn’t going to happen.”
