The fascinating thing about the lesson that Dutreval gives at the beginning of this scene:
from the movie Scaramouche is that the trick always works. I’ve given at least a dozen people introductory fencing lessons over the years, I’ve often used that line, and it never fails. Loosening one’s grip too much when you’ve been cautioned not to grip too tightly appears to be human nature.
