The Innocence of Jussie Smollett

The major media outlets are abuzz with accused hate crime hoaxer Jussie Smollett’s protestations of his innocence. Which is the greatest likelihood?

  1. He’s telling the truth. He didn’t do it.
  2. He’s lying. He’s maintaining his innocence hoping to beat the rap.
  3. He’s lying. He’s maintaining his innocence to extend his 15 minutes of fame.
  4. He’s nuts. He did it but he doesn’t know that he did it.

There’s no business like show business.

He was projecting his view of society to clarify what fears he lives with on a daily basis. The story he told may not have happened in reality, but occurs millions of times daily in the minds of Trump supporters and dangerous bigots who would wear MAGA hats at 2:00 AM in downtown Chicago.
Put another way, even if it didn’t happen, you just know it easily could, and this is how his terrifying non-experience should be judged.

We had a very similar case in this town,

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around the reasoning that people would do something like this. To me, it makes zero sense.

I guess this theory is as good as any:

  • One of the things that should have provided an early clue that the story might have been a hoax was the very aspect that made it attractive to the media outlets: it was both racist and homophobic. Multi-bias hate crimes are quite rare—according to the FBI about 1% of all hate crimes are multi-bias.

Anything that seems too good (or bad) to be true probably is.

    And yet you “reserved judgment.”

Anyway, the answer is B. Seems to be working out well for Coonman and Poontangman. Great strategy when you have amoral media and other hypocritical Democrat types covering your back.

  • Yep. I always do. I’m the perfect juror.

Some combination of B and he is nuts. He wrote out a personal check and made calls to the guys on his cell phone. Anyone who has ever watched a TV cop show those are some of the first things police look for. Maybe we add in stupid to the list?

On the other hand, lying about stuff is totally accepted now, and actively defended. Look at POTUS. Maybe he thought that he was famous enough to escape any consequences. He should have known it takes more than fame, it also takes a lot of money if you want to be free of consequences when you do illegal stuff.
