The Council Has Spoken!

The Watcher’s Council has announced its picks for the most outstanding posts of the preceding week. The winning Council post was Joshuapundit’s post, “Gaza Becomes Hamastan, Part 2—Clarity and Opportunity”. Second place honors went to Cheat Seeking Missiles’s post about an Episcopal priest who also claims to be a Muslim, “’Muslim and Christian? In One Body?”. The two religions have fundamental doctrinal differences and the fusion suggested IMO demeans both of them.

The winning non-Council post was Michael Yon’s post, “Be Not Afriad”. This is Michael Yon’s update on the eve of the operation currently being conducted in Iraq’s Diyala province. FWIW the musical setting you most frequently hear of the scriptural text from which Michael’s post takes its title was written by Bob Dufford, an acquaintance of mine. Second place honors went to Back Talk’s post, “Beware: Misleading Statistics are Coming Your Way”. I voted for both of these posts and nominated the second, an examination of the reality of trends in median incomes. Why is the reporting of economics and business news so, well, odd? I think there are a number of reasons including that too many journalists have an agenda, that few have ever taken an economics course, and even fewer have taken a statistics course. Honestly, I blame the J-schools. They need to have much, much tougher curricula.

The complete results are here.
