The Best Examples

I’m looking for the clearest exemplars of blogs that take predictable ideological or political positions. Please leave your suggestions in comments.

For the Democratic Party line I think it’s difficult to beat Josh Marshall’s Talking Points Memo. I’m not sure what the equivalent on the other side of the aisle is. Red State, maybe? I read things posted there so rarely I don’t really know.

For right wing blogs, I think I’d probably say Ace of Spades HQ. Maybe I’m being unfair. What’s the analog on the left? Daily Kos? Years ago I could have named several but they’ve mostly fallen by the wayside or “taken the Boeing” as they used to say.

Please propose other candidates.

That’s hard since I’ve culled my reading list considerably in recent years. Here’s my short list of remainders:

Hot Air – it seems less zealous than other places on the right, but I mainly still go there for Allahpundit who is witty writer who somehow has managed to keep his anonymity all these years.

Wonkblog – Gives the mainstream technocratic left viewpoint.

    Krugman – because Krugman

Most everything else is more analytically oriented even if it comes with a political or policy bias.

And…that’s about it. Any others I read occasionally when I find them via third parties (twitter, google alerts, other blogs, facebook, etc.)

  • I see the Washington Post as the best source for learning the prevailing Washington wisdom. Technocratic, yes, but with an establishment bias rather than a left or right bias.

Pretty much how I see WaPo. For reliable Right wing try American Thinker. For a survey of right wing sentiment and the hot topics, still nothing better than Drudge. For anti-inflammatory Muslim, anti-Sun right wing try Geller’s site (though TBH have not looked at it for a while. Just ignore links to it now.) For health care Avik Roy is now pretty reliably right. Guess you have to be if you want to be a campaign adviser.

If you are up early, and check out the links on Drudge, tune in Rush @ noon, you quickly pick up that Drudge IS his show prep. He just expands on the articles that interest him.
One small matter that concerns me is I’ve heard Trump use the term “lame stream media” that he could only have picked up from that program, which in my opinion is not so much wrong, as a repetitive waste of time. My concern is that Trump tunes in way too much media.

Your best bet on the left is Naked Capitalism, which is also much more technical than the supposed “technocratic” blogs.

So, we collectively haven’t come up with much. That says something about us, the current blogosphere, or both.
