Regular errands

I devote every Saturday morning to running a regular set of errands. Since, as I’ve mentioned, Saturday night is steak night, when I go to Happy Foods, our local grocery store, I get one 12 oz. strip steak. Happy Foods, unlike most supermarkets, sells prime beef and has real butchers. A 12 oz. prime steak is just large enough for a serving for me, a serving for my wife, and trimmings for the dogs.

The moment the steak goes on the grill our girl, Jenny, starts camping out in the kitchen and won’t leave it until she gets her steak.

I’m a daily shopper so shopping is quick and easy and, best of all, everyone at the store knows me.

I had a few extra errands this morning and after leaving the grocery we headed for Morton Grove Animal Hospital so our boy, Qila, could get his regular Adequan shot. At ten Qila has a bit of arthritis and the Adequan seems to help a little.

After the vet’s we went to the liquor store. I have to have some wine with my steak, don’t I? I got a Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, Casa Apostolle 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, and yielded to temptation and bought a bottle of Highland Park Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 20 year old unfiltered. And I told the cashier my story that, when I bought a bottle off the 18 year old Highland Park for my wife’s birthday (along with a tent for agility trials), she bragged to her friends that her husband had got her a tent and an 18 year old for her birthday.

We then swung by Kohl’s and Target to return a few Christmas presents (yes, I’m a procrastinator), went to Panera’s to pick up a couple of panini for out lunch, and headed home.

Busy morning.

  • I have a 20 year old Highland Park, a Signatory bottling. I tend to prefer the tang of the islands, but it is nonetheless a wondrous dram.
