When I first read the story in the post below, first at Bloomberg and then at Reuters, I found the reporting so garbled that I was forced to re-report it myself. That was no particular hardship; I invariably prefer primary sources.
Here’s a simple, trivial example. The Bureau of Economic Analysis (unmentioned by either news outlet) of the Department of Commerce issued a press release. The press release consisted of a statement followed by a table. Reuters characterized it as a report, somewhat more ambitious than the actual source, while Bloomberg more conservatively called it numbers.
Neither outlet linked the actual source which you would think would be a minimum requirement in online reporting.
