Problems with Movable Type

It has come to my attention that Movable Type is in the process of breaking down on this blog primarily due to excessive comment and trackback spam despite the various anti-spam tools that I have put in place here. I will be converting to WordPress as soon as possible. If you have attempted to comment, please stop back and try again later.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

That’s horrible. There’s no way to track down the Basta#$s?

  • I wrote this before I saw that you switched to Wordpress, but figured I would post it anyway, since it’s still relevant.

I think I see your problem: “Version 2.661”

Unless you have a WHOLE lot of spare time on your hands, you may instead wish to consider upgrading to Movable Type 3.2 (currently in beta for about another week). Learning a new system isn’t trivial and MT 3.2 (or hell, even 3.17) is light years ahead of what you’re using, which was released over a year ago before spam really became the problem it is today.

As you’ll see on the very partial feature list posted here, you’ve got infinitely more spam protection built in than what you have now.

Also, as soon as you upgrade, get Spamlookup. With it and it alone, I get about three spams per week and all of them are moderated.

    Have a great day!
