Posting all over today

James Joyner is taking a few days in California so I’m taking up a little of the slack at Outside the Beltway. Check out my commentary on Brad DeLong’s post on healthcare reform over there.

I’ve also got a post on Tod Browning’s 1932 movie, Freaks, over at Dean’s World.

I don’t plan on leaving The Glittering Eye an orphan today, either. I should have my review of Chicago Lyric Opera’s production of Die Fledermaus and, possibly, some observations on issues of the day.

Stay tuned!

  • I guess Glittering Eye got orphaned yesterday. I have been “staying tuned” hoping to see your review of Die Fledermaus. I assume that was Saturday night’s wonderful performance.

Do you know who was the understudy who jumped into the role of Orlovsky? What did you think of her performance?

  • I didn’t catch the name of the understudy. I was quite a surprised (as I assume everybody was) and I was quite impressed with her stepping in so quickly. I thought she did quite a good job.

I was completely satisfied with the performance overall. I thought that Rosalinde wasn’t quite what she should have been.

  • Agreed, I had the luxury of the best seats I have ever had, and the performance was specatcular, but I thought Rosalinda lacked a bit of fire. Especially at Orlovsky’s.

It was good to hear the extra cheer for the understudy at the curtain call. It guess was fun to see the cast in Bear regalia during the curtain calls (someone misunderstood my description aurally and thought I said the cast came out bare. But these are not Rhinemaidens.

But this couldn’t compare with Solti coming out in a Bear hat 26 years ago and leading the CSO in Bear Down Chicago Bears an hour before the last Chicago Superbowl (The CSO moved the concert to the morning to avoid a conflict) A video of that is now available on the CSO site and I undertsand one of the cast of Fledermaus also made a U-Tube video of the song.

  • Yes. It was the chap with big red beard at Orlovsky’s.
