On KSA

  1. Jamal Khashoggi was not a good guy.
  2. Even bad guys have a right not to be murdered for their views.
  3. The Washington Post deserves some criticism for cozying up to a bad guy and their present indignation about his murder is unbecoming. Where was the indignation when the Saudis murdered a busload of children?
  4. Mohammed bin Salman is a very bad guy (and probably not particularly bright).
  5. We don’t need Saudi Arabia as much as we used to.
  6. The Saudis have been persistent supporters of radical Islamism and radical Islamist terrorist groups around the world.
  7. We shouldn’t be supporting their war against Yemen and we shouldn’t support Saudi Arabia at all.

Detachment is probably the best policy we could follow. I’d prefer more punitive measures against the whole Saud family. They’re monsters and the world would be better off without them.

Thanks, Dave I’d add to 4 that he’s young and drunk with power and surrounded by sycophants.

It leaves one important issue unresolved, do we, and who do we, ally with if not SA?

What’s the basis for Kashoggi being bad?

I believe that our host has stated many times that the US has no allies in the Middle East. Without a treaty, they are client states at best.

While I am unimpressed by NATO, they did show up in Afghanistan. To my knowledge, neither Saudi Arabia nor Israel have.

  • Khashoggi has been a long-time member of the Muslim Brotherhood. MB is to AQ what Sinn Fein was to the IRA.

I agree Khashoggi did not deserve to be murdered for his opinions (if in fact he is dead, there is so much BS going on about his purported death I wouldn’t be surprised if the names of Netanyahu or Merkel or Putin or Xi came up). However he did a lot more than simply complain publicly about the Saudi royal family. A LOT more. There’s also the strong possibility of enemies of MBS did it as a false flag to paint the de facto ruler of KSA as an even badder guy than he actually is. I want evidence, not statements, or accusations, before I make a judgment.
