Not the Day I’d Planned

I definitely haven’t had the sort of day I’d planned today. When I arose this morning and set one foot out of bed, a shooting, stabbing pain in my ankle about an inch above the sole of my foot at the back of my ankle effectively prevented me from putting any weight on that foot. After some time I managed to drag myself, with considerable pain, downstairs.

I’m guessing either plantar’s fasciitis or some sort of tendonitis. I’ve spent the day staying off my feet, taking the occasional dose of ibuprofen.

I hope it doesn’t persist.

  • Hope it isn’t plantar’s fasciitis. The cortisone shots in the heel are a real bear.

Take care of yourself and get well.

Do you have a history of gout? I do, and it sounds similar to what I get from time to time, especially in winter.

  • I doubt that it’s gout. I have no history of gout and there is none in my family, either. There is no redness or swelling.

If, as I read it, you are talking about your Achilles tendon, or nearby tendons in the heel (but not heel pad area), it is not uncommon that upon waking they can be strained (or torn) upon initial load. Especially as we age.

I don’t know how old you are, but a good practice upon waking is simply to rotate and stretch your feet before walking. (loading)

On the other hand, I recall you saying you walk just about 365 days a year. It might be a slight strain that simply manifested itself upon waking. You know the drill: ice and advil for 48 hours. Heat and rest thereafter. Then back to it.

If it is Achilles tendon related, if you recall I have 4 of them and might have one in decent condition to spare 😉
