My Dad’s Birthday, 2008

Today would have been my dad’s 94th birthday. Here’s a story I might not have told you before about him. When he was a kid, no more than ten or twelve, and a new YMCA opened not far from his home he was waiting at the door the first day it opened to join. That was the kind of guy he was. There was an article about it in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. I’ve still got the clipping around here somewhere.

25 years later when the Y celebrated its anniversary it invited him back and gave him a key.

He died roughly 40 years ago but his loss still pains me.
