TaxProf reports a serious breach of security at AICPA:

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the professional association of CPAs, has sheepishly announced that it has lost a computer file containing the names, addresses, and social security numbers of some its members…

He follows with the letter issued by the organization.

However, he doesn’t point out the real irony in the situation. AICPA is one of the primary certification organizations for computer and systems security. Their SysTrust principles are probably the most recommended security procedures by major corporations. Apparently, formulating security procedures is one thing, following them another.
