Fourth of July Sauganash Parade 2015

The big event of our Fourth of July celebration each year is the Sauganash Fourth of July Parade. This year the parade got started a little late. We’re waiting for it.

There’s quite a bit of variety in the parade each year. The Chicago Fire Department usually puts in an appearance.

We were glad to see that the Emerald Society had decided to join us as well.

The Boy Scouts marched.

Churches are represented. This is a group from the Sauganash Community Church.

This year the Stanley Cup put in an appearance. There was quite a bit of cheering for the Blackhawks.

In an election year the Sauganash Parade is absolutely chock-full of politicians. Even in a non-election year we get a few. The chap in the yellow shirt is Mike Quigley, our Congressional representative, representing the Illinois Fifth Congressional District. As you can see the Sauganash Parade is not a formal occasion.

Somebody running for a judgeship. Spelled differently from the famous Chicago Daleys.

My beloved Happy Foods generally has a float.

Queen of All Saints, the local parish.

And vehicles. Lots and lots of vehicles.

All ages.

And shapes.

And types.

The local grammar school.

As I’ve said before, the Sauganash Parade follows in the tradition of Irish parades in which “parade” is not a noun but a verb. As usual there were more people marching in the parade than there were watching it.

There were any number of dogs in the parade but I thought this chap looked particularly happy to be there.

And the parade is over for this year.
