Foreign Policy Blogging at OTB

I’ve just published a foreign policy-related post at Outside the Beltway:

Romney’s Middle East Policy Op-Ed

I really wish that Gov. Romney would flesh out his ideas a bit more. Yes, we should have a strong economy, a strong military, and strong values. How do we accomplish that? How can we convince the Iranian leadership that we’re serious if they don’t already believe it? Should there really be “no daylight” between Israel and the United States? How could that be accomplished?

Yesterday I heard that after the 1st debate Romney was going to be giving a foreign policy speech.

Yes, it would be helpful if Romney ‘fleshed out’ his ideas on foreign policy. People are saying the same thing about putting more ‘meat on the bones’ of his domestic policies and tax reform ideas as well. But, what about Obama’s ideas — where are his specifics on foreign and/or domestic policy? Why aren’t there hard-ball policy questions directed at him?

There was an article yesterday noting that people were treating Romney more like the incumbent, as if his candidacy was based on some kind of official WH record, rather than leveling a candid scrutiny at the record, ambitions and/or goals of the guy actually occupying the office of POTUS!

Here’s what I wrote in the comments over at OTB:

“Disappointing op-ed, but not really surprising. Romney is running a campaign focused on domestic policy. He doesn’t have much experience with foreign policy. But he can’t completely ignore it either, so he gives the typical, safe answer – support for Israel and a populist, if incoherent, message about promoting values. I’d love for him to get specific but it’s not going to happen unless he’s forced into it. “

Mitt Romney needs to sell himself to the Clinton Democrats. He is going to coast defeat if he is counting on these voters without closing the deal. These voters know about President Obama, and any “hard-ball policy questions” are not going to get them to vote for Romney. He will need to “put more meat on the bones” of his domestic policy if he wants to convince them to vote for him.

It is always amazing how businessmen cannot understand simple marketing. Just because the other guy’s product is a piece of junk, I am not going to buy yours. If you are not selling me on your product, it must be junk also.

The proper response to being called a vampire is not to bring out reports, charts, and statistics. If you are not a vampire, let me know what you are. My suggestion would be a three-legged bunny rehabilitator, but what do I know?

Couldnt he have just written Obama sux and I will be better. Would have contained just as much info and taken less time. Well, except for the Israel part, but I kind of think we knew that. I dont think the current leadership in Israel is capable of much compromise (much like the current GOP), so we either follow them or they follow us. I am not keen on following policy dictated by a small client state. Even if they do have nukes.
